Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic Remake Reportedly Paused Indefinitely

Date:

The upcoming remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic has apparently been put on hold indefinitely because of disappointment with how the RPG is going right now.

According To The Source says that when Lucasfilm and Sony saw Aspyr’s recent internal demo of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, it didn’t go over as well as it could have. Because of this, Aspyr told its employees that the project would be put on hold and that the company would look for “new contracts and development opportunities.”

Also, Aspyr fired Jason Minor, who was the art director and design director for the remake. Minor reportedly said on social media that the firing came as a surprise.

Aspyr has been working on a remake of the 2003 Star Wars RPG for the last three years. In September 2021, they will finally announce the game. But after showing a demo, or “vertical slice,” of the game to production partners Lucasfilm and Sony, two employees were fired, and work on the game was put on hold.

According To The Source tells that the studio heads at Aspyr told their staff that the vertical slice “wasn’t where they wanted it to be” and that the project would be put on hold.

The future of Aspyr’s role in the project is still unclear, but Aspyr’s parent company, Embracer, said in May that Saber Interactive would help with the project, and some Aspyr employees think Saber may take over the project completely

Star War Knights of the Old Republic remake was only going to be available on PC and PS5, and it was said to be a full remake made from scratch. Knights of the Old Republic was made by BioWare, and it has always been thought of as one of the best Star Wars games and western RPGs.

At the 2021 PlayStation Showcase, where the first teaser was shown, it was announced that Jennifer Hale would be back to voice Bastila Shan.

Reports say that Aspyr planned to release the remake in late 2022, but sources say that 2025 is a more likely date. But it’s not clear how this project will move forward at this point.

Sources say that the Star War Knights of the Old Republic remake has been put on hold for the time being. Aspyr Media, the company making the KOTOR remake, reportedly fired the game’s art director Jason Minor and design director Brad Prince without warning, and a series of meetings held by Aspyr in July showed that the project had been put on hold. They didn’t say how or why. Aspyr is looking for new contracts and ways to make games in the meantime.

sources even said Aspyr finished a demo of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake to show to Lucasfilm on June 30. It was said that the developers were happy with the game so far and felt like they were on the right track, but this demo did not go over well.

It looks like Aspyr told Lucasfilm,  and its own employees that the game would be out by the end of this year, but now the release date is set for 2025. We don’t know what will happen next, but it looks like the remake of Knights of the Old Republic is no longer being worked on.

This isn’t for sure, but since May 2022, Saber Interactive has been helping Aspyr with the Knights of the Old Republic remake by doing some of the work that has been outsourced. Some people at Aspyr seem to think that Saber could take it over completely.

This would give the project some hope, but it might not be very reassuring. Having problems with time and money and switching development studios are both common signs of development hell. It’s too soon to say that’s what’s going on, but fans should still be worried about this news.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KotOR) is a role-playing game that was first made for the Microsoft Xbox. It was later released for the PC and Mac OS X and is also available on iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.

The game was made by BioWare and released by LucasArts on July 15, 2003, for Xbox, November 19, 2003, for PCs running Microsoft Windows, and September 7, 2004, for Mac OS X. Aspyr Media put it on the iPhone and iPad first on May 30, 2013, and then on Android on December 23, 2014.

Must Read:

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic takes place 3,956 years before A New Hope. It is about the time of the ancient Galactic Republic, which is right after the time of the Tales of the Jedi comics.

KotOR is the first computer RPG that takes place in the Star Wars universe. It uses the d20 System from the Star Wars Roleplaying Game rules by Wizards of the Coast. The player can also choose to serve either the light side or the dark side of the Force. This is done through a system called “alignment,” which keeps track of everything the player does, from simple dialogue choices to major plot decisions.
