Date:

The force said in a press statement that the investigation began after allegations that “offers of assistance were made to secure honor and citizenship for a Saudi citizen.”

A Sunday Times investigation published last year alleged that then-CEO of the Charles Charity, Michael Fawcett, Help nominate a Saudi businessman – Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz was awarded the position of Honorary Commander for the Best Order of the British Empire.

An Honorary Central Bank is one of the highest awards that can be given to a non-Commonwealth citizen. The Queen Elizabeth II Honors is awarded annually to people in the UK who have “have made achievements in public life” and have “committed to serving and helping the UK”, according to the UK government’s website.

The Met said it launched an investigation under the Honor (Prevention of Abuses) Act of 1925.

“The decision follows an evaluation of a letter in September 2021. This relates to media reports alleging offers of assistance to secure honors and citizenship for a Saudi citizen.”

The Prince’s Foundation is the umbrella organization for a number of Charles’ charitable projects, based on the historic Dumfries House estate in Scotland, which is used as a center for education and training as well as support for sustainable living. It is operated separately from Prince Charles’ main office at Clarence House.

A spokesman for Prince Charles referred to CNN on an earlier statement, asserting that “The Prince of Wales was not aware of the alleged offer of honors or British citizenship on the basis of a donation to his charities.”

The Prince’s Foundation has ordered an independent investigation into its fundraising practices following the allegations last September. He. She Finally concluded who – which Fawcett, who resigned during the investigation, coordinated with so-called mediators to honor the donor, according to the Palestinian Media News Agency in December. The Palestinian News Agency reported that Fossett, who previously served as Charles’ valet, has been CEO since 2018.

Police officers contacted the Prince’s Foundation regarding their findings, and after examining documents provided by the charity along with existing information, the police assessment determined “that an investigation will begin”.

A spokesperson for the Prince’s Foundation said in a statement that it “would not be appropriate to comment on an ongoing investigation.” A source familiar with the situation close to the charity told CNN that the charity would continue to offer its full cooperation.

The press release stated that no arrests or interviews took place under caution.
