Kirk Hammet Guitar Collection
Hammett is well known for frequently tapping his right (picking) hand in certain places. The ESP MM-250/MM-270 Zorlac is his guitar collection. The KH series was inspired by Hammett’s first custom guitar from ESP Guitars. It is with headstocks in the style of upside-down Jackson Guitars. Versus the horizontal ones on contemporary KHs.
Skulls and crossbones are vertical as opposed to horizontal. It was Hammett’s original intent. This model was permanently removed from the custom shop’s menu. It is because of the possibility of probable legal action from Jackson Guitars.
Randy Rhoads created the Jackson Model RR1T, especially for Hammett. Songs like Sad but True and The Memory Remains use this tuning. It is often one step lower than standard tuning.
In honor of the 25th anniversary of Metallica’s breakthrough album Kill ‘Em All, Hammett sports his brand-new custom ESP on the cover of Guitar World in February 2008. Hammett acquired the 1959 Les Paul guitar in 2014. He first used it when on tour in 2015. He gave a rendition of Thin Lizzy’s Whiskey in the Jar.
