Jane Campion She had a few select messages in response to Sam Elliott’s criticism of her movie “Dog Power” during Saturday night’s DGA Awards.
The director, who was asked to respond to the actor’s shocking statements, refused to back down.
“I’m sorry, Beach was a bit,” said the 67-year-old. diverse before the ceremony. “He’s not a cowboy; he’s an actor. The West is a mythical space and there’s plenty of room for scope. I think it’s somewhat sexist.”
Elliot, who made his mark in the West, criticized Campion’s style in the genre during His last appearance On Marc Maron’s “WTF” podcast. Campion noted that she considered the 77-year-old’s criticism as minor criticism against her as a film director.

“When you think about the number of amazing Westerns that (director) Sergio Leone has made in Spain,” she explained to the outlet. “I consider myself creative. I think he considers me a woman or something less first, and I don’t appreciate that.”
An Elliott spokesperson did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
When Elliott was asked if he had seen the movie, the star replied, “Want to talk about that piece of the…”
Elliott referred to a full-page advertisement in the Los Angeles Times that included a promotional commentary calling the film “a stripping of American myth.” The movie was also nominated for 12 . Oscars.

“I thought, What and–?” Eliot said about quoting from the 1967 novel by Thomas Savage. “This is the man who spent his whole life on Westerners.” Eviscerate the American legend. “It looked like—what are all these dancers, these guys in New York who wear ties and nothing else? Remember them from the past?”
“Oh, Chippendales?” Maron asked.
“That’s what all those cowboys looked like in that movie,” Elliott replied. “They’re all running through the classroom with no shirts on. There are all these references to homosexuality throughout the movie.”
“Yes, I think that’s what the movie is about,” Marron replied, speaking of the fact that Benedict Cumberbatch’s character, Phil Burbank, is gay and has not yet come out of the closet.

At the time, Elliott set his shooting mark on Campion, who was nominated for three Academy Awards this year.

And why is she shooting this movie in New Zealand and calling it Montana and saying, ‘That’s what it was?’ So she rubbed me the wrong way, my friend.”
“I mean, Cumberbatch didn’t come out of his classes,” Elliott maintained on the film. “He had two pairs of chaps–a pair of wool and a pair of leather. And every time he got in from somewhere…he wasn’t on a horse, maybe once–ing House, he broke into the stairs, and went lying in bed in his classes and played the banjo .
Meanwhile, Netflix appears to have listened to Elliott’s remarks, and a day after the interview was sent out into the air, the streaming giant tweeted a scene that showed Kodi’s character Smit-McPhee telling his mother, played by Kirsten Dunst, “He’s just one person. One man is just another man.”
