at most two European Union authorities have confiscated the mega yachts of Russian oligarchs after punishing executives in the wake of their country’s invasion of Ukraine.
The move to target these assets comes as the US Department of Justice announced the formation of a new task force Help impose comprehensive sanctions against the Russian oligarchs. The task force will use various tools on hand, including crypto-tracking, to track assets for confiscation and prosecute those who violate sanctions.
Meanwhile, the United States and its allies have imposed devastating sanctions on President Vladimir Putin and major Russian financial institutions, including the country’s central bank.

French authorities have confiscated a mega yacht they say is linked to Igor Sechin, the Russian billionaire who is chief executive of state oil company Rosneft. He previously served as Russian Deputy Prime Minister within Putin’s government. Forbes mentioned Sechin is known in Russian business circles as “Darth Vader”.
Sechin had previously been targeted with sanctions by the European Union after the invasion of Ukraine.
Forbes magazine reported that the 500-foot luxury yacht of Russian billionaire and businessman Alisher Usmanov has been seized in Germany. The European Union also imposed sanctions on Osamov.
The yacht, called Dilbar, has a swimming pool on the main deck and can accommodate 36 guests, according to website luxury yacht fan The site estimates the cost of the yacht at between $800 million and $1 billion.
