The family dog found a mountain lion under the roof of their home in Boulder, Colorado, on Sunday.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) and Boulder police Management responded after a family alerted them to the big cat after it was discovered by their dog around 7.30am local time on Sunday morning.

CPW said that mountain lion It was a male who weighed about 120 pounds, a slightly less weight for a male mountain lion.
CPW estimationThere are between 3,000 and 7,000 mountain lions in Colorado. Much of the state is described as a prime animal country.

However, there have been quite a number of mountain lion sightings in Boulder recently. Environmental Partners told KDVR that this is the 18th report of a mountain lion in the city since January 15.
Tyler Asnikar, a CPW Wildlife Officer, who calmed the cat, told KDVR News: “They’ve been spotted a lot in North Boulder. This may or may not have been one of those cats, but increased winter activity is fairly typical as they follow them. Base prey down, especially mule deer that move to lower altitudes this time of year.
“The concentration of the cat around the western edge of the city and this leads to an increase in views and may have resulted in this cat being in the city looking for something to eat.”
Mountain lions hunt a variety of prey including large mammals such as deer and elk, and smaller mammals such as rodents.
Big cats are found throughout the Americas and are vital to hemisphere ecosystems. Mountain lions are believed to be major ‘ecological mediators’ They interact with over 500 different species, believed to be more than any other carnivore.
CPW said in a later post that the animal had been moved for relocation far from Boulder.
