Ukrainian authorities reported limited success in securing the evacuation of Ukrainian civilians from the worst-affected areas on Friday.

Around Kyiv, volunteers and local authorities were able to help thousands escape from the worst-hit areas in the north and west of the city.

Meanwhile, Kharkiv Governor Ole Senhopov said that the attempt to evacuate more people from the city of Izyum “has been hampered by the Russian occupiers.” In a Telegram post.

“We have prepared 20 buses and humanitarian aid,” he said, adding that the “green corridor” was agreed upon and organized, but due to the bombing of the occupiers it was not launched.

In central Ukraine, authorities reported the successful evacuation of more women and children from Enerhodar – which had fallen to Russian forces a week earlier – and nearby villages.

Most of the displaced in this region are brought to Zaporozhye before boarding trains to western Ukraine.

Mariupol’s efforts: The head of the Zaporozhye Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Starukh, said local priests had joined in their efforts to send an aid convoy to the besieged port city of Mariupol.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov described the situation in Mariupol as very difficult. The Russians were accused of bombing the city even during official negotiations.

Local authorities in Mariupol say nearly 1,600 people in Mariupol have died as a result of the bombing and air strikes against the city.
