Explosions were heard in Kyiv as Russian forces press near the Ukrainian capital

Date:

Ukrainian authorities reported limited success in securing the evacuation of Ukrainian civilians from the worst-affected areas on Friday.

Around Kyiv, volunteers and local authorities were able to help thousands escape from the worst-hit areas in the north and west of the city.

Despite the intense outgoing and incoming fires, more than 22,000 people were evacuated after three days from the districts of Forzel, Hostomel, Bucha and Irben, all of which experienced widespread destruction and were cut off from electricity and water, said Oleksiy Kuleba, head of the commission. Regional administration in Kyiv.

Koleba added that the administration will, on Saturday, create new ways to reach towns that we have not yet been able to reach to evacuate people.

The most important is the town of Borodianka – which is about 25 kilometers (15 miles) northeast of Kyiv. It was bombed again on Friday as Russian forces continued their attempt to approach the capital from the north.

Meanwhile, Kharkiv Governor Ole Senhopov said that the attempt to evacuate more people from the city of Izyum “has been hampered by the Russian occupiers.” In a Telegram post.

“We have prepared 20 buses and humanitarian aid,” he said, adding that the “green corridor” was agreed upon and organized, but due to the bombing of the occupiers it was not launched.

Buses were bombed and I could barely turn around and make my way back safely. He added that evidence of the bombing could be seen on the buses.

In central Ukraine, authorities reported the successful evacuation of more women and children from Enerhodar – which had fallen to Russian forces a week earlier – and nearby villages.

Most of the displaced in this region are brought to Zaporozhye before boarding trains to western Ukraine.

Mariupol’s efforts: The head of the Zaporozhye Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Starukh, said local priests had joined in their efforts to send an aid convoy to the besieged port city of Mariupol.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov described the situation in Mariupol as very difficult. The Russians were accused of bombing the city even during official negotiations.

Local authorities in Mariupol say nearly 1,600 people in Mariupol have died as a result of the bombing and air strikes against the city.
