Mega Millions gave a California woman the state's highest jackpot this year.
Kristine Wellenstein won $426 million with a Mega Millions ticket she bought in Los Angeles County.
Hers was the only ticket in the country that matched all six numbers: 3, 16, 25, 44, 55, and 13.
Wellenstein said, "When I found out I'd won, I felt a lot of things, but mostly gratitude."
She said, "I want to give back and help both local and global projects." "Now is when my life's work starts to have its real effect."
Lottery officials said Wellenstein chose to get her winnings all at once. The Chevron station where she bought the winning Mega Millions ticket gets the maximum $1 million bonus .
The California State Lottery director loves huge jackpots and big wins. Higher jackpots lead to greater purchases, which equals more money for education.
The drawings for Mega Millions happen every week on Tuesday and Friday nights. Each ticket costs $2.
