Following outrage, Walmart has removed Juneteenth ice cream from its stores.

Walmart recalled a line of Great Value ice cream designed to celebrate Juneteenth after receiving backlash on Twitter.

Walmart said Juneteenth celebrates freedom and independence.

"A few goods caused worry for several customers, and we apologise. We are assessing our inventory and removing things as needed." Walmart said

On June 19, 1865, the Emancipation Proclamation freed the last slaves in Galveston, Texas.

In June 2021, President Joe Biden signed legislation making Juneteenth a government holiday.

Bridge issued an open letter Monday demanding Walmart to "immediately withdraw the Great Value brand of Juneteenth Ice Cream from all Walmart shelves"

The group's stated goal is to encourage a culture revolution in organisations where DEI ideas flow through all parts, from the C-suite to product development, procurement, and customer support.

Comedian Kevin Fredericks on Sunday tweeted about the controversial ice cream and other "Juneteenth" products Walmart was marketing.
