Tattoo Policy USA Military

To compete for top talent, the Army has revised its tattoo standards, shortening processing times for new recruits

Today, Army Sec. Christine E. Wormuth signed the amended directive

New instruction permits Soldiers to have tattoos on their hands, ears, and necks

The Army will allow one 1-inch tattoo on each hand

Soldiers can have a 2-inch tattoo on the back of their neck and 1-inch tattoos behind each ear

Tattoos can be impressed between fingers if the designs aren't visible while the fingers are closed

Recruits with similar tattoos formerly had to file waivers and wait weeks to be processed

The Army will continue to ban facial tattoos but allow them on arms and legs

Officials stated that the Army's ability to recruit elite personnel was hindered by the restrictions on tattoos
