Residents Waiting For $400 Energy Checks

As gas prices rise, California Gov. Gavin Newsom has proposed $400 checks for qualifying vehicle owners.

The proposal was introduced on May 13 as part of the amended budget proposed by the governor.

The $400 relief payments will cost California $11.5 billion if passed.

According to the office of Governor Newsom, checks would be limited to two per person.

Gas relief payments haven't passed, FOX-11 Los Angeles reported. Others in California oppose linking gas payments to car ownership.

Some participating MPs would prefer a gas tax break to relief payments.

According to AAA, the cost of a gallon of fuel in California is currently $6.19.

According to FOX-11 Los Angeles, gas prices in California reached record highs over Memorial Day weekend.
