North Carolina Senate Democrats have suggested a $200 gas tax rebate to help families struggling with increasing gas prices
North Carolina residents over 18 with a valid driver's licence on March 31, 2022 would be eligible for the $200 gas tax rebate.
North Carolina gas prices averaged $4.36 per gallon on Friday. A year ago, it was $1.45.
NC State economist Mike Walden anticipates costs to rise, but drivers' actions could change that.
The reimbursement would be sent "as quickly as possible" but no later than Oct. 1, 2022.
Cooper didn't propose tax reduction. He called for wages for state workers, more reserve cash, and other budget improvements.
The governor will carefully evaluate this legislation and looks forward to budget negotiations, said Gov. Cooper's spokesperson Jordan Monaghan on Friday.
This helps lessen the strain of high gas prices on American families.
