Ford Recalls 2.9 Million Vehicles

Ford is recalling 2.9 million U.S. vehicles over concerns they could roll away in park.

Ford's 2013-2018 C-Max, 2015-2018 Edge, 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2016 Fusion, and 2013-2021 Transit Connect models are affected.

In documents filed with the NHTSA on Wednesday, Ford said the shift cable bushing could degrade.

Even if drivers shift to park, this problem could prevent the shifter from moving the transmission, allowing automobiles to roll away.

When the transmission doesn't shift properly, the driver doesn't receive a warning message or chime, yet Ford's instrument panels indicate the right position.

Since April 2015, 1,630 warranty reports and 233 VOQs have been received. Ford said 4 injuries and 6 property damages  involved.

Heat and humidity could be to blame, the company said.

Beginning June 27, Ford will mail impacted owners. Ford and Lincoln dealers will service recalled vehicles for free.
